Island Dream Homes are situated in the middle of
Moreton Island
National Park which contains great four wheel driving
adventures. You can bring your own 4WD on the
MiCat or hire a 4WD from the resort.
Just ask us for details on
the best tracks or take one of the drives outlined
below.
Alternatively you can join one of the 4WD Tours
provided by the resort.
An outline of the four available
tours follows:
Sand Tobogganing & Desert Safari Tour:
The Tangalooma Desert Tour
offers something for everyone. The Tangalooma Desert is
an enormous sand blow of some 42 hectares in size,
situated south east of the resort and is reached by way
of dirt track which winds upward, and along, through
medium dense woodland.
When
the bus emerges from the woodlands into the desert the
brightness from the sand is most dazzling. With the
absence of vegetation together with the undulating sand,
one can be forgiven for thinking they are in the Sahara
Desert.
Once
in the desert, it is out of the bus. Your guide will
give you an informative insight into the formation of
this impressive sand island and show you the coloured
sands as they naturally occur in the desert. Then it's
back onto the bus as we head for the sand hills!!!
Now
the fun begins!!! You have the opportunity to toboggan
from the summit of one of the larger sand hills on
Moreton Island. The toboggans are simply pieces of
masonite which when waxed on the smooth side, can
achieve great speeds on the fine undisturbed sands. Of
course your guide who is an expert tobogganer from way
back, will instruct you on the correct technique to use,
the rest is pure exhilarating fun!
The desert Tour runs daily,
providing the weather permits. Do not forget your
camera, and sunglasses are essential!

The Blue Lagoon Tour:
Located south of Cape Moreton, the Blue Lagoon is one
of the largest fresh water lakes on the island. This
picturesque lagoon is always brimming full with crystal
clear water surrounded by fine white sand.
The tour takes you past the Tangalooma Wrecks before
crossing to the eastern side of the island where you
then travel north along the Ocean beach for about 7
kilometres. On the way your guide, who is as quick with
island knowledge as he is with a joke, will enlighten
you on the fauna and flora that inhabit the island.
Once you have arrived at the Blue Lagoon
the clear waters glistening in the sunlight, entice you
to enjoy a swim - legend tells us that a swim in the
Blue Lagoon will add years to ones life.
The tour takes about 3 hours. Just
don't forget your swimmers, oh and of course, your
camera.

Northern Safari Tour:
All aboard for Honeymoon Bay -don't miss
out on this one!
Situated at the northern end of Moreton
Island, this rocky outcrop forms the Cape Moreton
headland and offers visitors some of the most
spectacular views of the island.
We turn off the beach at Bulwer and
cross the top of the island before heading down to the
coast and the small picturesque cove which is Honeymoon
Bay.
Your guide will give you an
interesting insight into the ecology surrounding
Honeymoon Bay after which you will have the opportunity
to stroll along the beach. Then it's back on the bus,
for now you are off to Cape Moreton Lighthouse.
Built in 1857 by master
stonemasons and convict labour using sandstone quarried
from the immediate area, this historic lighthouse was a
welcome site for many ships attempting to negotiate
their way into Moreton Bay.
A short walk to the top of
the cliff is rewarded with spectacular panoramic views
of Moreton Island. The clarity of the turquoise waters
allows the visitor to spy on such marine life as
turtles, dolphins, fish, rays and sharks. It is hardly
surprising that visitors are reluctant to leave this
beautiful cape.
Operate mid October to mid June
Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00am
